How He Wore It: Cameron Forbes

You've met Cameron Forbes here on the blog before.

He's one of the most intensely talented songwriter/artists I've come to know, and is one of those forces that is quietly but quickly making waves when it comes to his craft.  We made a pact about 5 years ago late night on a Brooklyn-bound F train to chase the dream with full force one day. It's that day every day, and it has been for some time now.

Chicago's Got Talent: Take 2

Remember a couple of months back when I went on and on about how Chicago, and how I believe a creative talent explosion is on the horizon? Yep, still standing by that.

I had the chance to meet and talk dreams and the grind with Andrew Davis II not too long before the shoot of his very first music video. We vibed well, and I ended up working with him to style the principal characters of the shoot.

It was a 2 day production, there was a huge team, and yesterday he dropped the video for the public. The result: fantastic.

He's a refreshing feel-good artist that has received a lot of love for the video in some pretty awesome places like World Star Hip Hop, This is 50, and an interview feature over at I'm Flashy. Not too shabby. Keep this guy on your radar!

I love Chicago (almost as much as I love Detroit). It's where The Style Cooperative has grown, is developed with local artisans, and is shaped by the creative folks that do what they do so well.

We have to hustle a little harder to get shine like people in New York or LA, or even more niche places like Portland. But the one cool thing about that is the like minded artists, thinkers, and makers of the city tend to find one another here... and we love to see one another succeed on a stage that is bigger than just our city.

I met Andrew Davis II a few months ago because of our mutual love for Adobo on everything, but this ultra talented MC let me into his world, and I've had such a good time working with him and watching his career blossom. Check out the video; it's super genuine (watch for my  unexpected shout out). He talks music, style, and growth.

Work, Play & Passion, just as much as Life, Style & Stuff. Forget the hokie pokie, this is what it's really all about.

I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again. Chicago has real creative talent.

This past weekend, I had a good time working with a rising Chicago-based music artist Andrew Davis II with his first video shoot. I won't spoil it for you, so I'll hold off on the finer details until the video is released.  However, it was an amazing production and brought together a collection of talented 20-somethings in music, photography, fashion, film, web content, and more doing some of the most incredible work.

Passion and talent, the work is amazing. Stay tuned for what comes of this.

Introducing: Cameron Forbes

One of my favorite qualities that people can have is sheer confidence in themselves and their own futures.  I've known Cameron Forbes for a handful of years now, and he has always been the one there to go on my adventures through New York when we were both the broke interns with cool jobs, living in Brooklyn.

It's been a while since then, we've both come a long way, and I'm so proud to share with my readers that this week he has released his first EP "Masterpiece", as a solo artist, now available on iTunes, Amazon, and all the other lovely places you procure music. My personal favorite track is "When You Leave"; it's actually breathtaking.

The Style Cooperative has a special soft spot for stylish folks chasing dreams. There's even an upcoming project we have going on with both Cameron Forbes and Culture of Creativity (also insanely talented), so stay tuned and go check out the music.  You'll be hearing his name more soon, and then seeing it in lights.

Mixed Media: Au Revoir Simone

I appreciate people who create. Writers, painters, musicians, designers, actors, you name it. If you've got talent and you share it with others, I appreciate you. What I appreciate even more is when creative types have a strong and unapologetic type of aesthetic. After all, I don't really care who is now dating John Mayer or who made the guest list at some celeb event. I just want to know who looked good doing it, even if it is the party planner's assistant. I digress.

So I've created a new kind of post named Mixed Media. It will cover creative types whose craft outside of fashion exudes extreme style and personal aesthetic. Today, we'll start with an all female, all keyboard band that is garnering some pretty big attention. They are Au Revoir Simone.

Originally hearing about them in a podcast, I was instantly drawn the moment I heard the band name is a reference to none other than Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. They also enjoy the unique pleasure of being dressed for shows from time to time by Samantha Pleet.

Their style is little funky, a little romantic, and reminiscent of the [city] girl next door.
