Print Works

One thing that's going to make my spring are all of the beautifully busy prints popping up everywhere.  While florals and similar prints for spring aren't such a surprise, the colorful prints this time around are more delicate, whimsical, and everything you'll need to make a simple piece a little more special as the weather warms up.

Women's Spring Picks

How was your weekend?  Mine was great- had my hand at draping & drafting a pattern from scratch all day yesterday.  I never went to fashion school or anything like that, so the jury is still out on whether or not it was a success.  If it's not a totally shameful disaster, I'll share with you kind folks.

Alright, onto my Spring Picks for Women.  This spring, I'm looking forward to very feminine meets very masculine pieces.  You know, juxtaposition makes the world go round.

Mens Spring Picks

This past weekend, I had the good pleasure of catching up with an old friend while helping him shop around for some spring pieces.  This worked out really well for a few deep dark secrets:

1.  I don't actually enjoy shopping for myself.
2.  I LOVE shopping with men, teaching and pushing them to look at clothes differently

We talked about the shape of clothes, the use of accessories, and how to properly layer without looking like you tried too hard.  Casually cool was the name of the game, while avoiding what he called "The Uniform" (jeans, collard shirt of the plaid or striped variety, cool shoes).  After a couple of hours of shopping around and him being a good sport with trying new looks and ideas, here is my list of spring style picks for men:

I'm getting terribly excited for spring, even though it's still quite cold here in Chicago (and snow falling as I type). In order to keep me from thinking about the grey skies, I've been keeping busy making lovely little things to help transition my look into spring.

Earlier this week I finished making this dress from a fabric I picked up while visiting Michigan during the holidays. With the scraps, I also made a headband that I gifted to a friend. Maybe I can convince her to send some images of how she's been wearing it.

To escape the winter, I think a vacation may be in order sooner rather than later. How are you spending the last stretch of winter?
