The Weekend, Revisited

My weekend was a pretty busy one this time around. 

I've been working seemingly non-stop on pattern drafting and preparing samples.

Since I no longer work out of a separate studio space for the time being, work has started to find itself in places throughout my apartment. That would be patterns hanging from my patio curtain rod- how chic.

And remember when I told you I'd share the less than glamorous parts of this whole situation?  This is what became of my living room this weekend. As the number of patterns hanging kept growing, and the light became more sparse. 

In a more beautiful turn of events, I went to a promo runway show- saw some Summer looks to get the creative juices flowing for my own summertime styling.

The mens looks were also great- I wish there were more guys who would step outside of their wardrobe uniforms to put together fantastic, yet practical looks like this.

The models had great shoes, too! Great attention to accessories detailing throughout the show.

Out of the Studio

I've been spending a lot of time these days either in the studio or doing work to prepare for my next session.  While I haven't snapped images in the actual work space, I thought you may like a quick peek at what I've been up to.

I've been learning and growing a lot when it comes to construction and the science behind design work.  It's all very exciting!

Back to the Future

It's 2:45am, and this is what I'm working on. Erm, taking a break from working on:

I picked this pattern up a while ago, and I'm finally getting around to doing something with it. With this Simplicity 3688 Retro pattern, I'm starting with the blouse. Little surprises along the way like the way shoulders become defined through the construction are what make sewing from vintage patterns fun for me.

Is it terrible that my favorite part of the image is the little green cartoon gloves and how they hit ever so precisely near the end of the sleeve? Maybe I was a glove (or sleeve) designer in a past life. Sleeve designer? Sorry, it's late.

Anyhow, I'm currently working on the shirt in a soft grey shade in quite a luxe fabric. I envision updating this vintage style piece in the early fall by wearing it with denim trousers, a pair of booties, a deep red matte lipstick, and a statement ring. As the weather cools down, I could add a cropped leather biker jacket to keep the look current and a little unexpected.
