A Modern Renaissance

Ever since I started working on the company full time and really putting my passion and work out there, I've met some of the most brilliant, inventive, and generally awesome people working on equally awesome things.  One of the things that I've most recently been interested in is the cultural shift on what the word "urban" means these days. It's not the dirty word it once was, and creative individuals and groups are helping to make that shift to something entirely positive.

Here is a small collection of sites, projects, and general brain candy on what the idea of urban is becoming. Enjoy!

Old world charm, craftsmanship, and ideas for a new urban gentleman.  They are trying to change the idea of what an urban man is around the world, and that, I can respect.

The epitome of a modern renaissance.  A group of really talented and spot-on young thinkers that are supporting others in creativity, and having a good time doing it.

Cool Hunting discusses urban art, where it has been, where it's going, and some eye candy to make it all digestible.  Also, discusses graffiti as a medium of art you simply can't ignore.

If you've never had the good pleasure of hearing me on a soapbox about my theories on food, consumption, urban living, and how it all comes together, just skip to this article on Window Farms and we'll be ok. It's art meets local produce, and I just can't think of a single thing more perfect than that.

Is it just me or bikes more popular today than ever and effective in getting you a little street cred?  There are many more options for people who choose to get around on 2 wheels.  The US is catching up to what many European cities have been doing for a long time now- bike share systems.

Sick Day

Tortellini Soup

It's been a long couple of weeks since my return from the holidays, and has it hit me hard! Today, I took some time to myself to catch up on rest and get my health in top shape.

I also had the chance to catch up on a few projects. Just getting time to work in some good light while having the chance to take my time (and nap in between) was amazing.

A day well spent!

For Your Weekend

I've decided: no costume parties for me this weekend. Nope, not going to do it. Well, ok. Maybe. However, this is the first weekend I've had in a while with no company, no trips, no nonsenses. As I'm buzzing around town and working away on projects, here is this week's Friday rundown.

1. I thrifted a great vintage cabinet last night. I bought paint and will be shopping Anthro's spot-on section of knobs for a brand new entertainment cabinet.
2. Will be baking some delightful fall foods.
3. Today the public opening of my first fast-fashion favorite. I loved it in Spain, I love it stateside. Now I can love it in Chicago.
4. If you catch me out this weekend with my headphones on, chances are, I'll be listening to this on repeat.
5. I'm getting really into anything involving fancy letterpress. Calendars, note cards, you name it. This weekend, I'll be on the lookout for personalized & beautiful sketchbook.
6. Finally, I have time to sew! A few new and comfy dresses that are fall-approved on the way. (No link... they will be a surprise (which reminds me I need to snap pics of the teal dress. Yikes!))

Life[Style]: 'Tis the season... to cook outdoors

I admit it, I love summertime moments. When those moments include fantastically delicious foods, I'll call it bliss. Whenever take a trip back home with my little brother, we cook as a duo. I guess you could say it's our thing. I look forward to when we can make an afternoon of it and entertain friends and family with grill-only fare like we did today.

While it gets a little difficult because I'm more of the pescatarian variety, and he loves his meats, we usually strike a nice balance (or complicated menus).

This time we made kabobs with shrimp, pineapple ("marinated" in strawberry juice), and bell peppers. Going with the grilling theme, we also tossed on the grill some corn and Paesano bread from Zingerman's. We try our best to shop and eat local!

Have you made any food creations lately? Please, do share!
